Could someone explain this to me?

A friend has sent me this quotation from the Julian Clary column in the New Statesman, but I'm not sure I understand it.

Can anyone help?

"Cut the crust off and don't be put off by the musty smell. It's delicious!" said Maurice. Yes, well, he's not the first Frenchman to make that claim. I'll say no more.

I've been thinking long and hard about this and I'm glad to say that I have absolutely no idea what he's talking about. And if you'll excuse my French, I'm beginning to think he's just talking shit.

Seems some sort of sexual reference.

James, that's unthinkable. Julian Clary would never be so low as to make a veiled sexual reference

James, you must be wrong. In such a publication as the New Statesman?
