I hereby pledge I will not eat my horse

From The Sun today:

HORSE owners must sign a pledge not to eat their pets — or face up to two years in jail, a barmy new EU rule says.
Brits will be saddled with the legislation even though it is aimed at continentals who munch two million of the creatures every year.

Critics blasted the law yesterday. UKIP leader Nigel Farage said: “I’d like to be a fly on the wall when the Queen and Princess Anne are asked to sign a form saying they’re not going to eat their horses.

This was debated in Strasbourg a couple of weeks ago when UKIP MEP Godfrey Bloom made this speech:

I like the bit about 'no sense of irony'.

The reason we Anglo-Saxons don't eat horses is because they were a totem animal of the Angles. Revered. Of the Gods. That has persisted down the millennia to us. We still won't countenance eating horses.

I would, naturally, be averse to eating horseflesh meself but who are the EU to ban it in countries where it is culturally acceptable ?

Afterall, the Chinese eat dogs ( supposedly ) while regarding the consumption of milk with the same disgust as drinking any other bodily fluid ( YuuuK ! ).

Woo.
Genocidal lunatics are one nightmarish year from getting The Bomb, the West's policeman has just skinned itself a fat one and turned up the Jefferson Airplane , the majority of the world's fuel supplies are in the control of vicious ideologues who hate our way of life and who are actively willing to subvert it, our economy is sclerotic with over-regulation and burdened with massive tax-funded welfare and pensions commitments, but Black Beauty's off, and tofuburgers in?

I'm a vegetarian but, Jesus wept, an Englishman first, and if greasy foreigners want to snack down on Champion or Trigger, then that's their business.

I'd like a little more help for my concerns from the EU in its expenditure and its lawmaking, but, wait...

I'll get my coat...

One of the things that struck me when I arrived in Belgium is that you can buy horse steak in the supermarket here. I haven't eaten it, nor do I ever intend to.

As John Travolta would say in Pulp Fiction "Its the LITTLE differences".

By the way, I have my own blog now at the following link

Do feel free to have a look at it/link to it.

Kind regards
